White Water Safety and Rescue (WWSR)

Course Description

This two day training course is designed for all white-water canoe and kayak paddlers. The objective is to teach simple and safe skills that can be applied appropriately in the moving water environment. The course will improve your use of safety and rescue skills and personal survival techniques in both canoes and kayaks.

Course Content:
Safe paddling strategies
Recovery of a swimmer
Shouting, reaching, throwline, entrapment, boat based and live bait rescues
Knots and ropework
Shallow water wading techniques
Defensive and aggressive swimming
Recovery of equipment
Scenarios

Prerequisites

  • Confident to paddle on grade 2 water.
  • Confident swimming in normal paddling clothing.
  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
